Environment Badges

Available in license(s): Admin

With the Environment Badges feature you can automatically add an environment/company badge and configure its text and color based on the environment type, subtype, name and/or company that your users are working in.

With the environment badge, which is added to Business Central in the top-right corner, you can always make sure you are working (or testing) in the correct environment and company.

To enable this feature:

  1. Open the Environment Badges page

  2. Set up your badge configuration preferences per environment subtype, environment and/or company.

The badge settings (i.e., Badge Style and Badge Name) apply to the most detailed combination of the Environment Subtype, Environment and Company.

  • Environment Subtype

Specifies the subtype of the environments for which the badge configurations should be used.

You can define subtypes by using the Environment Subtypes page, e.g., an environment with a name ending with -TST has environment subtype Test.

  • All Environment Subtypes

Specifies whether the badge configurations apply for all environment subtypes instead of a specific environment subtype.

  • Environment Name

Specifies the name of a specific environment for which the badge configurations should be used.

  • All Environments

Specifies whether the badge configurations apply for all environments instead of an environment with a specific name and/or subtype.

  • Company Name

Specifies the name of a specific company for which the badge configurations should be used.

  • All Companies

Specifies whether the badge configurations apply for all companies instead of a specific company.

  • Badge Style

Specifies the color/styling for the badge configuration.

  • Badge Text

Specifies the text to display on the badge for this configuration (max. 6 characters).

Environment Subtypes

Productivity Package allows you to define environment subtypes that is identified based on the name of the environment, e.g., you could set up that an environment with name ending on -TST has subtype Test while an environment with name ending on -DEV has subtype Development.

To set up environment subtypes:

  1. Open the Environment Subtypes page (by searching for it, or by using the Environment Subtypes action on the Environment Badges page).

  2. Set up the fields (described below) to your preferences

The Environment Subtype applies to most detailed combination of the Environment Type and Environment Affix.

  • Environment Type - The type of the environment, i.e., Sandbox or Production
  • Environment Affix - The affix of the environment name
  • Environment Subtype - The subtype for this environment type and affix combination.

Note

The Current checkbox is set for the Environment Subtype you are currently working in; more specifically, the Environment Type and Environment Affix combination that applies for your current environment.

The setup in the Environment Badges page determines the color and text of the environment/copy badge shown on the top-right corner of your Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central window.
